Sorry (sorta)
On today's Hardball, Chris Matthews sorta apologized for his sexist comments about Hillary Clinton. The video is here, and the Politico story is here.
The so-called apology is too little, too late. Matthews' said it was not “fair to imply that Hillary’s whole career depended on being a victim of an unfaithful husband.” Not fair? How about sexist,- neanderthal head-up-the-ass thinking?
And the apology comes only after Media Matters CEO David Brock wrote an open letter to NBC News president Steve Capus about the Matthews' on-air behavior. Had Matthews apologized earlier in the week, I might have been inclined to take it a bit more seriously. And had he not been so defensive, so I'm hurt that people don't like me, and had he addressed concerns raised about the plethora of sexist comments he's made (in reference to Clinton and others), I might see this is something other than a half-assed attempt to quell the furor.
Sorry Chris, I don't buy it.
What's so maybe-not-so-odd is that his wife, Kathleen Matthews, has been an extremely successful newscaster in the DC area for years.
