Hat tip to The Talking Heads
As many have noted, as Palin travels about the country with John McSame, she keeps giving a version of her RNC speech. And that makes sense. Her speech was well received by the base, so she's sticking to what worked. But I happen to also suspect the McSame campaign is afraid she'll add to the gaffe factor if she goes off script and tackles something real.
And, she faces another problem: all the things she and McSame don't get or don't want to talk about. These include:
- the unemployment rate--the highest in 5 years
- the deficit-- it's a whopping $400 + billion; hard to talk about the Repugs fiscal conservatism in light of that isn't it
- the housing crisis-- Fanny, Freddie and a host of other banks and mortgage lenders are in trouble
- record foreclosures--the home foreclosure rate is at a record high
- gas prices--oil companies are making billions while most of us can't afford to fill the tank. When Bush took office gas was 1.47/gallon
- wages--we are earning less, food, gas, clothing cost more, and inflation is eating away at what little we do earn
The list could go on and on. How about the weakened dollar, job losses, education, trooper-gate, per diem-gate. . . .?
These are concerns the McSame campaign cannot afford to discuss; they have no new ideas and no new approaches, so they have very few options other than to repeat their RNC talking points, slander Obama, and lie to the American people. And lie they do: over and over and over again.
Yesterday I had written a brilliant, witty, and incredibly sarcastic post about Palin's lies, but I somehow managed to lose it before posting it (perhaps I was overcome by my own brilliance :-) ?). Even the mainstream press is beginning to call them out for these lies, so I won't try to recreate my brilliance here.
I do, though, find it incredibly ironic that the McSame campaign has launched its own "Truth Squad." They have no shame.
Yeah, well. McCain's poll numbers are up; ABC, Fox, and some other network are doing specials on Palin this weekend; all we hear on TV is lipstick and pigs. When a democracy has no press, it's hard for people to know there is even a discussion about issues.
Sorry to be so negative--it's in the air, and I'm reading Jane Mayer's book about Bush lawlessness.
